Life on a Cattle Farm (Life on a Farm)
Published in Library Binding by Carolrhoda Books (October, 2001)
Average review score:

An awesome bookThis book is very informative and insightful. The pictures offer children a comprehensive look into life on a cattle farm. They go very well with the text, and therefore allow kids to picture what they are reading. A great gift for children of all ages!
Great BookLiving on a farm all my life, I found this book to be quite insiteful myself. It would be a great book for young readers, who are not that well informed about farm life to become better adequated with the terminology and the processes that transpire on a farm from day to day. A correction to a previous review, where it stated that straw is used for bedding rather than hay. This is very true, but some farmers use hay as bedding because it is a more economic practice. I especially found the pictures to be very well taken. The pictures are very clear and go well with the text so young readers can identify with what is in the text. I highly recommend this book to anyone young or old who wants to see and learn more about life on a cattle farm.

The Little Red Hen
Published in Paperback by Clarion Books (March, 1985)
Average review score:

Excellent version of a classic.I have this exact book from when I was little and now I am reading it to my 2 year old. The relatively simple text and repetition makes it a hit with budding readers. My son especially likes the "Not I" Said the Cat, "Not I" Said the Dog parts because the book incorporates different pics of each animal into the text each time this is repeated. (Making goofy voices for the cat, dog and mouse is a big hit too.) A nice lesson in the pay-back for working hard vs. laziness.
A Great BookTeaches a valuable lesson about teamwork and helping out. Great illustrations. Easy to read for beginning readers. Paul Gladone has another winner!

Little Vixen (Half Moon Ranch Series)
Published in Paperback by Hodder & Stoughton (May, 2001)
Average review score:

Spectacular!Famous champion show-rider, Brad Martin, arrives at Half Moon Ranch one day. His cool, boasty, show-off manner makes most people suspect that something's up, including Matt, Kirstie's brother, who hates him for flirting with his mom, Sandy. Kirstie, though, has eyes only for his spectacularly talented paint, Little Vixen. When a barn fire occurs, starting in Little Vixen's stall, everyone at Half Moon Ranch suspects Brad Martin of planning to kill his horse for the insurance money. Is he responsible for the fire?
An Excellent Read!Little Vixen was the first Half Moon Ranch book I read. It was really exciting and I couldn't put it down! It just wasn't long enough! Half Moon Ranch books are all very good and the settigs and characters are described very well. This is a great book!!!

My 10 month old loves thisWe have many Maisy books at our house, but this one is especially cute! Maisy works on the farm milking cows, feeding chickens, etc. The pictures are adorable and my 10 month old likes us to make the farm animal sounds as we read it to him.
I highly recommend it!
Farm FunA classic Maisy book. Simple and gentle, Maisy feeds her friends on the farm.

Marcy Catches Up
Published in Library Binding by Harpercollins Juvenile Books (January, 1900)
Average review score:

Marcy Cathes Up"Marcy Catches Up" tells the continuing story of Steve and Marcy and shows how their relationship has evolved. This book shows Marcy in a new element. She is more secure in her ability to have a relationship. Marcy has been invited to go to a ranch in Colorado with her friend Liz for a vacation. Because Steve is leaving for college in the fall, he thinks that Marcy shouldn't go since their time together is limited. Marcy, on the other hand, feels she should be able to go on a trip if she wants to. Life in scenic Colorado is very different than Marcy's hometown. At the ranch, Marcy becomes involved in a summer romance. Marcy will have to examine her feelings and attiudes and make an important decision. Marcy learns that a vacation is just that--a vacation. Everyone has to come home. Marcy has more self-confidence in "Marcy Catches Up" than she did in the previous novel "Wait for Marcy." She has led a very sheltered life, so it is quite rewarding to see Marcy come out of her shell. I highly recommend this book.
Publisher: 'Catch Up' and Print Another Edition!Rosamond Du Jardin scores big with this one. Marcy is one of my favorite of her characters. We get to empathize as Marcy misses her boyfriend Steve who goes off to college. Then, when things in her family change, Marcy works to let go of her blues and take more responsibility. We are taken along as Marcy endures some difficult circumstances. She begins to explore personal issues, and begins to recognize that people and things may not be what they seem on the surface. By the end of the book, Marcy has matured into an intelligent, generous, and kind young woman. You will wish that she were here to be your friend!

McBroom Tells the Truth (Graphic Readers. Level 3)
Published in Paperback by Price Stern Sloan Pub (August, 1998)
Average review score:

A Lesson from McBroomI read this book repeatedly throughout my childhood (probably the first printing),and I think that the essence of the book is that you can make it through anything life throws at you if you have a positive attitude and the will to succeed. I recently repurchased this book to read to my nieces. A "10"
Endearing literature - Memorable linesI'm 34 and can still name all McBroom's children, can envision the moth's flying from his change purse, and have wonderful images of his children "riding" the produce as it springs out of the top soil. Very colorful and endearing!

This is a great horse book! I really enjoyed it.More Than A Horse is about a girl who her father's dead and she lives with her mother. They have to move to a new place because her mother found a good-paying job. She likes this place because its on a ranch- with lots of horses. If she gets along with Amos, the head wrangler, she gets to ride horses whenever there's one available. She meets great new friend from school, helps a handicapped kid, finds a horse that she loves dearly, and more.
Totally Neat! by Gina McGrathThis book is on MY best book reviews.
It captures real issues like the theriputic riding programs and friendships with horses and fellow riders AND family.
The only thing i'd love to see more of is the trail ride on the Percherons to find find Sassy.
Gushy stuff!

Mowing
Published in Library Binding by Greenwillow (May, 1994)
Average review score:

Simply Wonderful readingMy daughter is 6 years old and absolutely loved this book. Her grandparents live on a farm and she has heard stories of work horses and she somehow stumbled upon this book on her own at the library. When it was time to return this book, she searched for something similar and found Hurry! also by Jessie Haas and she was so excited. I also loved these books and immediately signed on to amazon.com to see if we could purchase them.
simply wonderfulThis is a beautiful picture book, like all of the books in this series about Nora and her Grandparents farm. It shows how draft horses work on the farm and how caring a good farmer is to all the other aninals who live on the farm, be they residents or part of the natural enviroment. A wonderful story, simple and beautiful. The illustrations are true to life and make you feel like your at the farm with Nora.
